Iranian Women to Attend Baku Subregional Conference

TEHRAN A women delegation comprising of representatives from Women Participation Affairs Center, Foreign Ministry and a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) is to leave here for Azerbaijan to attend a subregional conference on women due to open in Baku on May 18. The Iranian delegation comprising Dr. Touba Kermani, Afsaneh Nadi-Pour and Azam A'zimi Rad are to take part in the conference: Women Rights are Human Rights; Women in Conflict. Participants in the two-day conference are from Iran, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. In their working sessions the participants are to deal with Women's role in preventing conflict, violence against women, refugees and displaced women.

National legislations, international standards, ratification and monitoring of international conventions, national machineries working with human rights organizations, advocacy by the civil society the role of NGOs and media, the education system and the family as institutions of peace, building partnership with men are among other topics to be addressed in the plenary discussions of the conference.
